The annual Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t just have to be turkey and mashed potatoes (although potatoes are shamelessly my comfort food).

So…have you been asked to bring a side dish to the family dinner and you don’t know what to do? Here are some fresh and new ideas, from appetizers to savory sweets.

Appetizers:

1. Bacon Wrapped Brussels

This recipe is super simple, uses few ingredients and is a crowd pleaser. With honey and chives, it’s both sweet and savory, and so easy to put in the oven quickly!

2. Goat Cheese, Apple & Honey Tartlets

These crispy pastries are topped with a drizzle of honey, a perfect pairing with the tangy cheese and sweet, fresh apple. These pies could definitely pass for a dessert or an appetizer, but I’m sure you’ll want to treat yourself as soon as you see them!

3. “Holiday Crack” Cheese Bacon

Coining the name “holiday crack” by Half-cooked harvest for its addictive nature, this application super easy to make is to die for. You can use store-bought fries to make the process even easier, so all you need is brown sugar, maple syrup, bacon, cheese, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Sweet, salty, cheese… the perfect snack!

4. Butternut Squash and Feta Pastries

This sweet snack makes an excellent aperitif, and will have everybody ask for the recipe! The red pepper flakes make this pie a little spicy, or leave them out for a sweeter and saltier flavor.
