We are sure you want to go home with the most beautiful photos of the magnificent waterfalls, lakes and forests. No trip to Croatia is complete without a visit to Southeast Europe’s oldest national park, Plitvice Lakes National Park. There is not a single place in Plitvice Lakes National Park that is not special, but we definitely want to select the most interesting places for you to capture the most beautiful images of Plitvice.
Overlook – A view of the Veliki Slap and Sastavci waterfall
Upon arrival at Entrance 1 of Plitvice Lakes National Park, the first sight that will greet you is Veliki Slap, the largest waterfall in the park, but also in Croatia. Interestingly, Veliki Slap, the total height of which from the source of the Korana River is 87 m, is formed not from the water of the Plitvice Lakes, but from the small Plitvice stream, which s crushed on a rock 62 meters in the lake. below then overflows on several waterfalls. Its magnificence never ceases to amaze. In winter, temperatures sometimes drop below zero and the waterfall freezes over, while in spring it replenishes with water from melting snow and swells in unison with the surrounding vegetation.
Veliki Slap has less water in the summer, but even then it’s awe-inspiring and the mere sight of it takes anyone’s breath away. The elegance of the waterfall is revealed in the fall, when the rains begin to fall and each leaf is about to reveal its palette of colors. The view of Veliki Slap appears differently depending on the time of day because it is located in a canyon and the sun shines brightly there during the day. From the lookout point at entrance 1, the view extends not only to Veliki slap, but also to the canyon of the lower lakes and the Sastavci waterfalls, which form the Korana river with Veliki Slap. The turquoise color of the lower lakes is a stunning sight in itself.
Under Veliki Slap
After admiring the view of the Veliki slap from a height, we slowly take a path that descends through the forest and along the edge of the lake to arrive directly below Veliki Slap. The view of the Sastavci and the source of the Korana River is special, especially on days when the waterfalls create a rainbow, but when you walk along the path next to the rock and come to Veliki Slap, a picture says more than a thousand words. The magnificence of the droplets and the play of colors, light and shadow are breathtaking. We recommend that you just stop and enjoy the moment as the water dust cools you down. The waters of Plitvice Creek tumble down the rocks at their own pace, day by day, minute by minute.
The Kozjacka Valley
A picnic meadow located on the shore of the largest of the 16 Plitvice Lakes, Lake Kozjak, offers breathtaking views of the lake. Nestled between the forest and the lake, this valley has benches where you can rest before continuing the visit. On arrival in the Kozjačka valley, the view draws you towards the lake and the boats which sail slowly and give the impression that they are not even in contact with the lake. As the light changes during the day, the color of the lake also changes, changing from a warmer blue to a cool gray.
Not only the landscape but also the wildlife are in the mood for photography here. Ducks and fish come to you hoping that you will feed them, but remember that it is forbidden. You can continue your journey in three ways: by boat across the lake, down the long right or the shorter left of Lake Kozjak. Capture the moment when the boat sails on the largest lake and take a photo that will always fondly remind you of the Plitvice Lakes.
View from Kupalište meadow
On the shore of the largest and deepest lake, Kozjak, in the immediate vicinity of the quay for electric boats (P1), is the Kupalište. A spacious meadow and a perfect location to cool off. While you sit there and admire all the beauty of the Plitvice region, take photos of the vast Lake Kozjak and its unique island of Štefanija. The view from the Kupalište reaches the Burgeti waterfalls, which also adorn the lake, and the sound of the waterfalls will be the most beautiful background you can imagine.
Discover Kozjak in a special way and rent wooden boats located right next to the quay. Rowing on the lake of one of the most beautiful national parks in the world will not leave anyone indifferent. Incredibly clean water, rowing right next to the waterfalls, a view of the electric boats sailing on the largest lake in the Park and all the beauty of the surrounding nature will be a great story to end your trip.
Veliki Prstavac Waterfall
If you like to spend time in nature, take two days and go on an adventure on wooden bridges, by scenic train and electric boat. From Lake Kozjak, take a boat ride to the Upper Lakes, where a series of breathtaking waterfalls begins; The Prštavci waterfalls (Veliki and Mali Prštavac) are particularly impressive. Climb up to discover Veliki Prštavac, the second largest waterfall in the park. Come closer, feel and listen to the symphony of water telling the story of the centuries-old formation of the beautiful tuff rocks that the water tears away! Pevalekovi waterfalls
You know those places that seem to come out of a postcard? And you really want a picture of such a place? Such a place is exactly in the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Pevalekovi waterfalls are a special place and some of the most attractive waterfalls precisely because of their semicircular ridge, impressive water flow and clear emerald green pool below the waterfalls. Here you can capture every droplet of the waterfall in a photo. These waterfalls are dedicated to Dr. Ivo Pevalek, a scientist who gets the most credit for establishing the national park and promoting nature conservation.
We will always remember with emotion the sentence of Pevalek: “There are waters, lakes, waterfalls and forests elsewhere, and yet there is only one Plitvice Lake in the whole world”.
A view of Lake Prošćansko
If you start from the upper lakes, a walk over the wooden bridges will lead you to a beautiful view of the Prošćansko lake embraced by the spectacular forest! Depending on the day and the season, the lake can have a fascinating range of colors from the bright green found along the way, to deep blue when looking into the distance. A reflection can often be seen here – the flat, crystal clear lake provides the perfect background and “in it” you can see the reflection of the sky and the forest. Capture the most impressive photo of the reflection with your lens!

The Rapajinka belvedere
At the top of the Lower Lakes Canyon, there is a lookout point that offers a great view of the Milanovački Waterfalls, Lower Lakes, and Lake Kozjak. This is the only lake that electric boats sail on and you will likely “catch” a boat dreamily gliding across the lake. Water from Lake Kozjak happily flows into Lake Milanovačko, which is also the first of the lower lakes. The sedimentation of the tuff creates interesting shapes over which the water disperses in several smaller cascades. You will be amazed by the combination of the forest and the lake, it is a sight that you will remember all your life.
The S-Trail on the Lower Lakes
The famous S-trail is located in the Lower Lakes Canyon. This, along with Veliki Slap, is one of the most famous sites in Plitvice Lakes National Park. The S-shaped trail actually allows you to cross to the other side of Lake Kaluđerovac. In addition to the beautiful view of the incredibly beautiful color of the lake, you can also see the Great Cascades waterfall here. Nature has shown its playful side here and depending on the season and the water level, the sight of these waterfalls looks like happy droplets passing over the moss and tuff barriers. Your location is just above the trail so the photos show a bird’s eye view and such photos are definitely a must! When you reach this lookout, you will understand why this particular photo is popular all over the world.
